I have said it several times over the last few years, I could not do what I do without Google and tonight I got to prove it, not cause I wanted to though. Sometime around 1am PST today April 20th 2011 Google stopped responding. First I was convinced my browser was bonking yet again. Then I tried to pull up a map..NOTHING?!?!
Crap! whats going on?
Then I pulled out mtr (awesome Linux tool) and low and behold, over 50% packet loss at the 10th Hop at YOU-TUBE-IN.edge2.SanJose1.Level3.net
and then even more lost packets from there to Google. I also tested this out from some of my clients networks, not all ISP's were affected and being the hours that it happened at quite likely very few even notice it. Except me since I tend to work very late nights.
Crap, tomorrow ... TODAY ... Is going to SUCK.
It seems every time I read the news recently I hear more coming out of Apple, Steve Jobs is beginning to sound more like Stevo from the jackass series, specifically that is not very intelligent thing to do with computing and business relationships.
Ok so he has Pancreatic Cancer...BUT, Is there an app for that?
Sure maybe he is to isolated in his iHome and or egotistical to realize how many of the things he is saying could come back to doom his company and him if he lives that long. Perhaps he does not care. Whatever the case may be he is quite likely to one day regret it.
Case in point. On Jan 30th, 2010 Stevo was quoted by wired.com as saying "We did not enter the search business, Jobs said. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them, he says. Someone else asks something on a different topic, but there’s no getting Jobs off this rant. I want to go back to that other question first and say one more thing, he says. This don’t be evil mantra: “It’s bullshit.” Audience roars."
Stop right there and check the date, now go backwards to when Google Bought Android, that would have been back on Aug 17, 2005.
Case in point, google bought the android company years before the iPhone happened. Also of note, Jobs went and pissed off Cisco by using the iPhone name. Cisco owned this because of their purchase of Infogear back before 2000. I know, I worked there. Technically I am the actual first electronics tech in the USA to work on the iPhone
Funny but true and the iPhone is a pretty cool phone too, Apples I mean. The infogear iPhone which I still have 5 or ten of in the box was a incredibly cool device... Concept wise at least, but as far as a phone, well lets just say one of them burst into flames while being tested at ATT Labs. Cool product concept wise, but Infogear the company did concept much better than it did reality and now, back to reality. Stevo + Apple = Iphone -vs- Google + Adobe + Silicon Valley = ?
Ok, probably not the smartest move one could make, luckily Stevo was not dealing with Larry Ellison or One Infinite Loop in Cupertino might be one smoking cinder instead of Apple's Headquarters.
I ran into a friend the other night, hadn't seen him in years. Was great to catch up on things and in talking at some point he said something i am reflecting on right now. He (CM) said "Men are playing checkers, but women, they are playing chess." and at one level its totally true. But it did make me look at my relationship to or IN "The Game."
Well, just found out that my downloads are broken, so for anyone coming to download something.
